Hampden Awards $542,622 Paving Contract
Select Board · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Hampden Select Board awards a $542,622 paving contract and wrangles with Wilbraham over who pays to patch an aging middle school. Precise Paving came in under the town's $692,405 budget, freeing roughly $150,000 for other road work, while Highway Superintendent Mark secured a new loader plow for $13,500. The board approved Jonathan Cadger, on his third application, as a full-time firefighter after he gained EMS experience at Chapin Ambulance, and heard the town's ambulance rebate totals $104,502.47.
In a joint session, the Hampden and Wilbraham select boards sparred over whether Wilbraham Middle School repairs belong in their regional school agreement or a separate memorandum, with one Wilbraham member warning, "I won't support the regional agreement if we don't come up with an MOU that supplements it." Attorney Brian Winner agreed to draft new language before the Massachusetts School Building Authority votes December 9 on a project some officials pegged at $120 million to $150 million. The board also approved landfill-monitoring costs nearly double prior estimates and permits for a Saturday vendor event, including a one-day alcohol permit for a brewing vendor.
