Commission halts high school pool contractor over dumping
Conservation Commission · Meeting of September 23, 2026
East Longmeadow orders high school pool contractor to stop work after chemical dump turns pond white. Planning and Conservation Coordinator Alex Grigorov told the Conservation Commission he issued a cease-and-desist after a contractor identified as Fontaine dumped pool-liner chemicals into a stormwater system that feeds a pond and brook running toward the Connecticut River, saying the crew "lied to me, lied to DEP, like, directly to our face." The state Department of Environmental Protection sent its hazard response team for two days and is now investigating; the Board of Health confirmed no private wells sit within 200 feet of the affected brook. In routine business, the commission continued its July 22 and September 9 minutes to October 14 for lack of a quorum, approved a partial certificate of compliance for 17 Ramona's Way, and closed two wetlands determinations, including one requiring a Fisher Avenue child care property to remove dumped construction debris near a delineated wetland.
