Select Board · Meeting of October 19, 2026

Springfield's City Council Finance Committee reviewed roughly ten state and federal grants and a $5 million charter school tuition increase without taking any formal vote. Parks Department staff outlined a $265,000 PARC grant for Hubbard Park's splash pad and a $1 million Land and Water Conservation Fund grant, matched by $1 million in city free cash, to reopen Five Mile Pond's public beach by summer 2028. A $1.2 million Housing and Livable Communities grant will fund hydrant and sewer repairs at the Boston Road Mobile Home Park, serving about 312 low-income households.

Councilor Govan pressed staff on why grants concentrate downtown, saying "we got a whole city that we got to make sure we're improving." Councilor Davila questioned whether charter school tuition reimbursement follows students "quick enough" when they return to district schools.
