Other Committee · Meeting of October 8, 2026

Southwick's Lake Management Committee approved September minutes 6-0 with one abstention and locked in a 23-acre hydrilla treatment for October 13. Conservation Commission liaison Norm Cheever said his own dock temperature readings helped confirm the water was warm enough to treat, telling the panel "the answer is yes, at that temperature we should definitely treat." Members also discussed a stubborn beaver dam on Canal Brook that rebuilt itself within five days of manual clearing, and said they would ask the Natural Resources Conservation Service to make brush removal there a standing maintenance item. A possible Southwick Police Department boathouse, floated with help from the Westfield Vocational Academy, stalled on staffing: the police chief reportedly backs the idea but lacks officers to commit to regular water patrols.

The panel set October 31 to pull the lake's docks for winter.
