Other Committee · Meeting of October 19, 2026

Southwick's Board of Assessors corrected undervalued outbuildings without raising townwide property values. Director of Assessing Randall Austin told members Bill Brown and Dean Horacek that garages and sheds had been assessed roughly 7 percent, or about $8,000 to $9,000 per structure, below market cost, prompting "moderate increases" for some owners this year. The board voted 2-0 on seven routine items, including motor vehicle abatements and sewer betterment commitments for 114 Point Grove Road and 130 Berkshire Avenue.

Austin said exemption and Chapter land-use applications now have a December 1 deadline, shifted from October 1, and his office will begin contacting past exemption recipients in early November, including home visits for seniors. The board closed by voting 2-0 to enter executive session to discuss confidential abatements and exemptions.
