SOUTHWICK — The Southwick Parks and Recreation Committee voted to appoint Laura Sylvia as its representative to the Community Preservation Committee. Dan Welch, John Wally and Rachel Stevenson joined Sylvia in a unanimous 4-0 roll-call vote on October 14. Members separately discussed targeting November 6 to close town ball fields for winter, a date one member said could slip "to the second week of November" if Southwick High School teams advance in postseason tournament play.
Committee member Dan Welch reported picnic tables behind the park's playscape have "been broken for a year," with concrete bases tipped over, and offered to inspect and repair them himself using his own lumber. The committee tabled a baseball field closing date and referred the picnic table repair to old business for its next meeting, which members discussed possibly moving to November 4 due to travel conflicts.
