Springfield DPW locked in a cheaper trash contract, trimming its enterprise budget by about $620,000. Director Chris Signoli told the City Council the city's landfill tipping fee will drop from $115.21 to $100 a ton for fiscal 2027, pushing the DPW enterprise fund down 3.4 percent to $13.9 million. The council's own budget sparked confusion when City Clerk Gladys Iola's office gave three figures, $628,113, then $620,113, before settling on $593,944 after Councilor Davila pressed for clarity. 311 Director Jason Garner said two of ten budgeted call-center jobs sit vacant, partly blamed on a bachelor's degree requirement; Garner said success "really" requires "computer skills and critical thinking skills," and councilors Govan, Walsh, Fenton and Hurst urged dropping the degree mandate.
