Southwick Conservation Commission approves four wetland applications, issues lake erosion order

Conservation · Meeting of July 20, 2026

Southwick Conservation Commission clears six wetland applications and issues two enforcement actions at its July 20 meeting. The board voted unanimously to approve an after-the-fact Notice of Intent for a rock shoreline at 4034 Mountain Road filed by West Suffield, Connecticut resident Doug Coby, who told commissioners "the grass has fully grown in right up to the rocks" after hydro-seeding in May. The most debated item was a continued RDA for 157 Feeding Hills Road — the Crepes Tea House — where consultant Steve Salvini of Salvini Associates presented a structural engineer's recommendation to anchor an already-installed handicap ramp using 12 concrete sonotubes, 15 inches in diameter and four feet deep, rather than the lower-impact helical piles commissioners had requested; the board approved the sonotube method unanimously over objections about flood zone displacement.

The commission also voted to approve a Notice of Intent for a new single-family dwelling at 4R Rising Corner Road with a $10,000 bond condition, issued a friendly enforcement order for severe hillside erosion at 25 Island Way on Lake Congamond, ratified an emergency tree-removal certification at 18 Brayton Drive, and approved $150.57 in office supply purchases from an $8,392 Local Wetland Fee account balance.
