SOUTHWICK — The Southwick Conservation Commission approved a notice of intent to close the long-unpermitted Doiron Landfill at 49 Sam West Road. Tom Daniels, representing the project, said the site took municipal waste from the 1960s until 1976 without a proper engineered cover and is now moving forward under a Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection consent order, with construction planned for spring 2027. The commission required no bond, citing MassDEP and Planning Board oversight, but added a vernal-pool survey condition.
Separately, the commission issued a negative determination for driveway and garage work at 201 Granville Road, approved geotechnical sampling at 95 and 110 Fred Jackson Road, and released a combined $30,000 in bonds for three subdivision lots after certificates of compliance. "Going forward to approximately 2023, 2024, there was additional waste brought onto this property," Daniels told the board. Members also voted 5-0 to continue a hearing on 5 and 9 South Road to November 2.
