East Longmeadow Conservation Commission hires ecological peer reviewer for Nelson Street wetlands case

EAST LONGMEADOW — June 10, 2026 — East Longmeadow Conservation Commission escalates two wetlands enforcement cases and hires a peer reviewer for a contested Nelson Street application. At the June 10 meeting, Chair Elizabeth Stoughton and members Jason Gumpur, Anthony Zampaccini, and Megan Logan voted unanimously to hire Steve Liberty of Bog Hunter Ecological Services LLC to review wetland delineations and assess tree impacts for a proposed single-family home at 0 Nelson Street, continuing that public hearing to July 8. The commission also formally approved Enforcement Order EO-2026-01 against the owner of 371 Pease Road, where both Stoughton and Zampaccini reported observing continued tree clearing after a certified cease-and-desist was delivered in April; the owner has two weeks to contact the commission or face escalating consequences. For a separate 2025 wetlands violation at 30 Vineland Avenue, the commission directed staff to send a final letter demanding written proof of a hired qualified restoration contractor within two weeks — failure to respond will trigger fines of up to $300 per day. The commission also voted unanimously to dismiss a four-year enforcement order at 383 Porter Road after photographs confirmed completed riverbank restoration.
