East Longmeadow Assessors Grant 17 Property-Tax Exemptions, Deny Two Applications

EAST LONGMEADOW — April 22, 2026 — East Longmeadow assessors grant 17 property-tax exemptions and sign motor vehicle warrants totaling nearly $298,000. The Board of Assessors voted 3-0 at its April 22 meeting to approve a consolidated slate of fiscal year 2026 real estate exemptions and abatements, granting relief to 17 households under veteran, senior, surviving spouse, and disability statutes — including Section 22, 22E, 41C, and 17D — while denying one exemption at 80 Avery Street and one abatement at 35 Somersville Road. Chairman Martin Grudgen, Clerk Marilyn Ghedini, and Assessor Hayden Smith also signed a 2026 Motor Vehicle Excise Commitment No. 2 warrant for $297,905.27 and reviewed an MDM-1 state reimbursement submission of $309,798.08 covering the town's full exemption program. Director of Assessing Keri-Ann Wenzel warned commercial property owners that FY27 income and expense forms are due May 15, with a $250 penalty for noncompliance, and confirmed that a single Bishop and Associates inspector will begin state-mandated cyclical property inspections — prompted by 512 courtesy letters already mailed — in early May.
