Assessors Back 5% Valuation Increase for FY27

East Longmeadow assessors vote 2-0 to raise FY27 property values roughly 5 percent. Consultant Roy Bishop of Bishop and Associates told the board its median assessment-to-sale ratio sits at 90, the floor of what the Department of Revenue allows, based on 126 valid sales, about half the volume recorded five years ago; he recommended a target median in the mid-90s. Members Marilyn Guedini and Chairman Martin Grudgeon voted yes on the increase, which applies to residential, condo, land and commercial-industrial property, though commercial parcels will get individual review.
The board also signed off on $3,289.22 in motor vehicle excise abatements for August, heard that second-quarter tax bills are due November 2 because November 1 falls on a Sunday, and revised its sales questionnaire after Director of Assessing Carrie Ann Wenzel said a repair-history question read as "an intimidation question." The board closed by voting 2-0 to enter executive session on Appellate Tax Board case updates.
