SOUTHWICK — The Southwick Parks and Recreation Committee reported its motocross fundraiser topped $40,000 for the first time, with proceeds set to support the park's operating budget. Members said excavation has begun on new pickleball courts, expected to take two to three months. A beach surveillance system was damaged amid vandalism, with a volunteer identified as Paul Allen unable to retrieve footage from what one member called "a World War II recording system." The committee also authorized, without a formal vote, a Pioneer Valley Planning Commission request to install speed-monitoring sensors on the rail trail to gather data on e-bike and bicycle speeds for grant applications.
Members separately disclosed that a water-testing vendor at the beach had attempted to charge roughly $300 weekly, including undisclosed fees, before town accounting corrected the rate to about $100.
