Committee proposes six options for old townhouse

Hampden panel weighs six futures for the vacant Old Townhouse, floats merging it with the new fire station. The Old Townhouse Committee will bring the Select Board six options May 11, from full renovation to demolition, after a 2022 study pegged a full fix at roughly $7 million to $8 million. The town's Community Preservation Act fund holds $646,000 available for the project, separate from a $15,000 CPA grant approved years ago for a still-unfinished historic district survey.
Members noted the fire station, authorized at about $8.3 million to $8.4 million last year, sits roughly 50 yards away and asked "why are we not connecting these two projects." A townwide survey has drawn 165 responses so far. The committee voted unanimously to meet again April 1.
