Hampden panel moves to merge sale and retention options for the old Town House into one warrant article. The committee, working on the future of the town-owned building at 625 Main Street, agreed to combine competing proposals to sell the property or retain it for public-private partnerships into a single ballot question, while spinning a proposal to create an economic development council into its own separate article. A request for information seeking buyers or redevelopment partners is due back Sept. 21, with a site visit set for Sept. 16; a local paper, referred to as The Times, is expected to cover the RFI.
Members said any warrant language on retaining the building should tell voters plainly it carries "tax implications." The group opted against a second public forum in favor of social media outreach, and several members said the committee itself should wind down once the articles are filed, folding its work into the new council. The meeting closed with a unanimous vote to adjourn.
