Board of Health Extends 41 Pleasant Street Repair Deadline to March 28

EAST LONGMEADOW — February 25, 2026 — East Longmeadow Board of Health unanimously extended a housing-violation deadline at 41 Pleasant Street to March 28, 2026, while opening a preliminary discussion on kratom regulation. The three-member board — Chair Rebecca Torscha, Dr. Katie Jobins, and Christine Johnston — voted 3-0 Wednesday to give property owner Angeline Lind 30 additional days after a February 18 reinspection found roughly half of the original December 2025 violations still unresolved, including a missing basement smoke and carbon monoxide detector, unrepaired basement wiring, ongoing rodent-dropping accumulation in the attic, and several structural deficiencies. Occupant Teddy Joe Eaton submitted a written letter stating he had experienced health concerns, loss of property, and financial harm as a result of the conditions. Separately, five public commenters from Michigan, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Colorado urged the board not to ban natural-leaf kratom, citing a July 2025 FDA press conference and a 2026 international symposium; health department staff said the calls were triggered by internal board discussions following a state investigation into a local smoke shop and noted that Northampton and other Pioneer Valley towns have recently enacted synthetic-kratom regulations.
