Hampden panel finalizes five reuse paths for the Old Town House, all on hold pending a fire station land decision. The Old Town House Study Committee locked in cost ranges for the 1931 Sessions-gift building, from a $10.4 million to $15.7 million rebuild anchoring a new fire station behind a retained historic facade to a $583,000 to $833,000 demolition for a public park, with a developer buyback-and-leaseback option pegged at roughly $8.3 million offset by new tax revenue. Members said none of the paths can advance until Hampden's fire station committee decides how much town-house parking and green space its own expansion needs.
Resident Rebecca asked "how's that going to work out if there's a fire" given Main Street's school-hour congestion, while resident Brian said the town has "already paid twice to have plans made for the fire station" and warned against paying for a third redesign. The committee voted unanimously to correct wording on its public-private-partnership option before adjourning.
