West Springfield Eases Mandatory Water Restriction to Level 1

WEST SPRINGFIELD — Mayor Reichelt's administration has reduced West Springfield's mandatory water use restriction from a Level 2 to a Level 1, effective Friday, September 11, giving residents more flexibility with outdoor watering while the regional drought designation stays in effect.

The reduced restriction status will remain in place until the state Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs revises the regional drought declaration, according to the town's announcement. The change marks a step back from the tighter Level 2 limits that had been in place, though officials did not specify which activities are now permitted under Level 1.

Separately, the Department of Public Works Water Division has contracted with Water Safety Services, a regional cross connection control firm, to conduct site surveys of every non-residential property in town. The inspections are set to begin in October 2026 as part of the town's ongoing effort to safeguard the municipal water supply from potential contamination through improperly connected plumbing systems.
